NARRABEEN & NEWPORT · SYDNEY'S NORTHERN BEACHES
Vehicle Graphics Sydney
Your work vehicle is on the road every day — which makes it one of the most cost-effective advertising tools your business can have. Every kilometre driven is an opportunity to put your brand in front of potential customers.
MTM Signage produces custom vehicle graphics for tradespeople, small businesses, and fleets across Sydney's Northern Beaches — from simple ute decals to partial vehicle wraps, all produced from our Newport workshop.

WHAT WE OFFER
Types of vehicle graphics we produce

Cut vinyl decals & lettering
Business name, logo, contact details and shapes cut from self-adhesive vinyl. Clean, professional, cost-effective. Best for utes, vans, and trailers. The most popular choice for sole traders and small businesses. Removes cleanly from leased vehicles.

Magnetic signs
For people using a personal vehicle for work who want the option to remove branding instantly. Attach and remove in seconds with no trace left on the vehicle. A practical solution for flexible-use situations.

Printed graphics & partial wraps
Full-colour logos, photographic imagery, gradients and detailed graphic treatments on cast vinyl. A partial wrap covers a specific panel or section — rear, doors, or lower half — and combined with the existing paint colour is often indistinguishable from a full wrap at a fraction of the cost.

Trailer graphics & wraps
Maximum impact. Flexible options. Choose a bumper-to-hitch full wrap for a total brand takeover, or a strategic partial wrap targeting high-visibility areas like the rear doors. Using premium cast vinyl, full-colour logos, and photographic imagery, we create mobile billboards that demand attention.
WHY IT WORKS
1. Why vehicle graphics are worth it
Your vehicle as a moving billboard
A branded vehicle doesn't sit still. On a typical working day, a tradesperson's ute passes through several suburbs, parks in residential streets, sits in car parks, and stops at job sites — each location a fresh audience. Research by the Outdoor Media Association of Australia suggests a single vehicle graphic can generate tens of thousands of impressions per month in an urban environment, making it one of the lowest cost-per-impression advertising formats available.
For Northern Beaches tradespeople and service businesses, local visibility matters enormously. When a homeowner in Narrabeen sees a well-branded plumbing van parked two doors down, and then searches for a plumber a week later, that brand impression can be the difference between a call and a scroll-past.

Should I put my business name on my work ute?
For most tradespeople and service businesses, yes — and the sooner the better. A ute or van with clean, professional graphics signals that you're established and serious about your work. It also makes you easier to find: clients can spot your vehicle, identify your business at a glance, and refer you to others by name. Vinyl graphics can be removed cleanly when you're ready for an update, so there's very little downside.
What information should be on your vehicle? At minimum: your business name, your trade or service, a phone number, and a website or suburb. Including a service area like "Northern Beaches & Sydney" helps people understand whether you're local to them — which matters a lot in a tight-knit community.
Fleet graphics and consistent branding
For businesses running multiple vehicles, consistent branding across the fleet projects professionalism and scale. A fleet of vans with matching graphics tells customers you're organised and reliable. We work with businesses running anywhere from two vehicles to larger fleets, producing consistent graphics that can be replicated accurately across vehicles of different makes and sizes.

DESIGN
2. What makes effective vehicle graphics
Design principles for vehicle signage
Designing for a vehicle is different from designing for a screen or a flat sign. The surface is curved, the viewing angle changes constantly, and you have between two and five seconds to make an impression on someone driving or walking past. Effective vehicle graphics share a few consistent characteristics:
We don't have an in-house design team, but we can guide you through the design brief and connect you with trusted local designers who understand large-format vehicle graphics. If you have an existing brand identity, we'll work from that.
Ute decals: what works and what doesn't
Utes are among the most popular vehicles for business signage on the Northern Beaches. The most effective ute decals use the tailgate as the primary branding surface — it's the most visible panel when parked — and the doors for contact details and trade description. A clean, bold treatment on a white or silver ute is almost always more effective than a cluttered one.
Common mistakes: too much text, font sizes too small for the available space, low-contrast colour choices, and trying to include too much information. Your vehicle graphics should make people curious enough to note your name or number — not explain your entire service offering.
-
Legibility at distance and speed — large, bold typography that reads instantly.
-
High contrast — text and graphics must stand out from both the vehicle colour and the road environment.
-
Simple hierarchy — business name first, then trade or service, then contact details.
-
Limited colour palette — two or three colours maximum; more looks busy.
-
A clear call to action — phone number, website, or both, readable from another vehicle.
-
Brand consistency — matches your website, uniform, and other marketing materials.

Legal requirements for vehicle signage in Australia
Most vehicle graphics for business purposes are straightforward from a legal perspective. Front windscreen and driver's side window graphics are heavily restricted. Rear window graphics are generally permitted as long as the vehicle has a rear-vision camera or the graphics don't entirely obstruct the driver's rear view. We'll flag any potential issues when you brief us on your vehicle and application.

MATERIALS
3. Materials: what we use and why
Cast vinyl vs calendered vinyl
For most vehicle graphics, we use cast vinyl as our standard — it's the right product for the application and produces a more durable, better-looking result.
Laminates and protection
All printed vehicle graphics are protected by a clear laminate applied over the print — protecting ink from UV degradation and physical abrasion, providing a consistent surface finish (gloss, satin, or matte), and extending rated life significantly. We laminate all printed vehicle graphics as standard. For vehicles exposed to heavy use — construction sites, coastal environments, frequent commercial washing — we'll specify a heavier-duty laminate appropriate to the conditions.
How long does a vehicle wrap last?
A well-produced and properly installed vehicle wrap, using quality cast vinyl and laminate, will typically last 5–7 years in Australian conditions. The main factors are UV exposure (vehicles garaged or in covered parking last longer than those in direct coastal sun) and surface preparation before application. We'll give you an honest assessment of expected lifespan for your specific vehicle and application when we quote.
Calendered vinyl
Stiffer, less conformable. Suited to flat or gently curved surfaces. More affordable but shorter outdoor life. Best for flat panels, magnetic signs, and simple trailer applications.
Cast vinyl — our standard
Thinner and more conformable — wraps complex curves, rivets, and recesses without lifting or wrinkling. Rated for longer outdoor life, more colour-stable. The correct choice for full wraps and any complex surface application.

PRICING
4. How much does vehicle signage cost?
Every vehicle is different
Vehicle graphics pricing depends on the type of treatment, the size and complexity of the vehicle, the materials required, the design process, and the installation time. A simple set of cut vinyl ute decals is a very different job to a full printed wrap on a large van — and pricing reflects that. We don't publish fixed prices because a quote without seeing the vehicle and understanding your brief wouldn't be accurate or useful.
What we can tell you is that vehicle signage is typically one of the best-value advertising investments a small business can make. The cost is a one-time outlay that delivers impressions every day for years — and for sole traders in competitive local trades, a professional-looking branded vehicle often pays for itself quickly in new enquiries.
What affects the cost
-
Vehicle type and size — a ute, van, and truck all require different materials and installation time.
-
Treatment type — cut vinyl decals, printed partial graphics, or full wrap.
-
Design — whether you're supplying print-ready artwork or need design assistance.
-
Complexity — curved surfaces, recesses, rivets, and handles add installation time on full wraps.
-
Number of vehicles — fleet pricing applies for multiple vehicles.
-
Removal of existing graphics — if old decals need to come off first.
Getting a quote
The best way to get an accurate price is to send us an enquiry with your vehicle make, model, and year, a description of what you're after, and any existing artwork or brand guidelines. Photos of the vehicle — particularly the panels you want signed — are always helpful. We'll come back to you within one business day with a clear, itemised quote. For fleet jobs, we'll arrange a site visit to see the vehicles in person before quoting.

PROCESS
5. From brief to on the road: how we work
Our process with vehicle graphics clients
-
Initial enquiry — vehicle details, what you're after, and any existing branding or artwork.
-
Design or artwork review — we review your artwork for vehicle application, or connect you with a trusted designer.
-
Quote — clear and itemised, covering materials, production, and installation.
-
Artwork approval — you sign off on the final layout before we produce anything.
-
Production — graphics produced in our Newport workshop using quality cast vinyl and laminate.
-
Installation — at our workshop or at your premises for fleet jobs. A ute decal set takes 1–2 hours; a partial van wrap may take a full day.
-
Handover — we inspect the finished result with you before handing the vehicle back.
Surface preparation: why it matters
The most common reason vehicle graphics fail prematurely is poor surface preparation before application. Paint that isn't clean, degreased, and free of wax or polish will reduce adhesion and lead to lifting edges and bubbling — particularly in the heat of a Northern Beaches summer. We prepare all surfaces thoroughly before applying graphics, and we'll advise you if the vehicle's paint condition is likely to cause issues before we start.
Vehicle prep tips for clients
Wash the vehicle thoroughly the day before, but don't apply any wax or polish
Remove accessories from panels being signed if possible
Arrive with a full brief — business name, phone number, website, and key message
If supplying artwork, send it as a vector file (AI, EPS, or PDF with outlined text) ahead of your appointment

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before getting in touch.
Vehicle graphics pricing varies depending on the treatment, the vehicle size, the materials, and the complexity of the design — a simple set of cut vinyl decals on a ute is a very different job to a full printed wrap on a large van. We don't publish set prices because a quote without understanding your brief and vehicle wouldn't be meaningful. What we can say is that vehicle signage is typically one of the best-value advertising investments available for a small business — a one-time cost that works for you every day for years. Send us an enquiry with your vehicle details and what you're after and we'll come back to you with a clear, accurate quote within one business day.
How much does vehicle signage cost for a small business?
Vehicle wrap vs paint: which is better for a business vehicle?
For business branding, vinyl graphics have clear advantages over paint. They're removable and updatable when you rebrand or change your contact details, they protect the vehicle's original paint which can preserve resale value, and they can be produced and installed much faster than a full paint job. The visual quality of a modern printed wrap is excellent, and most observers can't tell the difference between a wrap and a custom paint job at normal viewing distances. For business graphics specifically, vinyl is almost always the right choice.
How long does a vehicle wrap last?
A quality vehicle wrap produced with cast vinyl and proper laminate will typically last 5–7 years in Australian conditions. The main factors are UV exposure — vehicles garaged or in covered parking will last longer than those in direct coastal sun — and surface preparation at the time of installation. Cut vinyl decals in sheltered positions can last even longer. We'll give you an honest assessment of expected lifespan for your specific vehicle and application when we quote.
Should I put my business name on my work ute?
For most tradespeople and service businesses, yes — and the evidence strongly supports it. A branded ute generates local impressions every time it's driven or parked, which adds up significantly over a year. It also makes you look more established and professional, which matters to new clients comparing quotes from people they haven't used before. The only real reason not to is if you regularly park in locations where you'd rather not advertise your presence — but for most Northern Beaches tradies, the benefits significantly outweigh any downside.
What decals are legal on car windows in Australia?
In NSW, front windscreen graphics are restricted to a narrow band at the top and a small area at the bottom. The driver's side front window must remain clear for legal driving. Rear windows can carry graphics as long as the vehicle has an alternative rear view such as a reverse camera — fully opaque rear window wraps are increasingly common on commercial vans. We'll advise on what's appropriate for your specific vehicle when you brief us.
What information should be on my business vehicle?
At minimum, your business name, your trade or service type, and a phone number. Adding a website address is increasingly important as many people will search for you rather than call directly. A suburb or service area — "Northern Beaches & Sydney" — helps people understand whether you're local to them. Beyond that, keep it simple: one clear message, clearly displayed, is almost always more effective than a detailed list of every service you offer.
Can vehicle graphics be removed without damaging the paint?
Yes — quality cast vinyl, properly installed on sound paintwork, can be removed cleanly without damaging the paint beneath. The key factors are the quality of the vinyl used, the condition of the paint at the time of application, and how long the graphics have been on the vehicle. Graphics that have been on a vehicle for many years in harsh sun can be more difficult to remove than recent installations. We use quality materials specifically to ensure clean removal is possible when you're ready for an update.
Do you do fleet vehicle graphics for multiple vehicles?
Yes — we work with businesses running anywhere from two vehicles to larger fleets. Fleet jobs benefit from consistent templates applied accurately across vehicles of different makes and sizes, ensuring cohesive branding across the fleet. For fleet enquiries, include the number of vehicles, their makes and models, and any existing brand guidelines when you get in touch. We'll arrange a site visit for larger fleet jobs to assess the vehicles before quoting.
